New ink.....

That is going to be my birthday gift, from me, to me! Its not the kind of ink you are thinking. It is not the ink I play with in my craft room all the time. I am talking ink...as in tattoo!

Yes, Mom, you read that correctly.....
(God help me!)

She has never been a fan of tattoos. But, this won't be my first...it will actually be my fourth. I have had my other three for several years. They are small and very cute and girly. It is not like they are big in-your-face tattoos. But I love them. And I love art. Tattoo work, done well, is an amazing art form. I have thought about getting a new one over the years, something more grown up, something with meaning. Two of the tattoos I have now, small dolphins on different parts of my body, do have a lot of meaning, to me. I got them after the first and second time I swam with dolphins. It has always been a dream of mine to get in to the water with these amazing creatures. It is such a moving experience to witness their sheer beauty, grace, strength, and size while in the water right next to them. But I had to stop at two. If I got a tattoo each time I swim with them I would be covered with dolphins! No thanks.

So back to my gift to me. As I mentioned above I have thought about getting new ink over the years but never followed through. Now that I am approaching 40 I think about it constantly. This will be the first time I am getting a completely original, designed just for me from my own ideas and rough sketches, tattoo! My brother directed me to a great local place...now I just have to make the appointment with the artist to have it designed then the next appointment to have it done!

I can't share what it will look like yet...because I don't totally know! Here is a hint, though...

αγάπη ζωής

It will incorporate, somehow the words above. Those are the Greek words agape, which means love, and zoi, which means life. Somehow I would like those incorporated in my tattoo, in Greek letters.

This new one will also be small. I am just not in to really big tats. It is going to be small, and feminine, and a little bit abstract and artsy. I would love to have it done in time for my actual birthday but since it is two weeks from today I don't know if I will. It is OK though. I know I am going to do it. My gift to me!

Wow...that is cool!! :) I have never thought of getting a tatoo...and my parents would probably kill me...but I would love to have a small one (in a hidden spot) that would mean something to me(maybe an angel)..just don't know if I would have the guts...

I want to get a small tasteful one discretely placed. I just haven't decided yet...

I cannot wait to see... I've thought about getting a tattoo for the longest time. Ever since Michael died, the thuoght is stronger than ever. If you look under Mike Vii in facebook, you'd see a tattoo on his chest. Its big-ass, and he got that not long before he died. His first one.

I wouldnt want one that big myself. I would want a small one with special meaning and some kind of celtic knot design thingy.

Coming from an untattooed woman, that idea is very cool. My sister-in-law has the best tattoo I've seen on a woman. It's on the inside of her elbow and it's a sun (her), a moon (her husband) and three stars (her children.) All very colorful in blues and golds. She's just gotten her first grandchild, I wonder what she'll do to represent her?? Is your new one going to be somewhere you can show us?
