"Tedy Bruschi is retiring."
THAT is the first thing my husband decides to tell me as I am groggily, and grumpily, pulling myself out of bed at the ass crack of dawn. I was all like, "wha??? huh???" See, Kevin is a much nicer morning person than me. He dutifully gets up as soon as his alarm goes off, gets in the shower, pours himself a bowl of cereal, and turns on NESN (New England Sports Network) for bit. Me on the other hand? The snooze button is my best friend! But when I do manage to peel myself from the sheets you do NOT get my day started by telling me that one of the key players on the New England Patriots is retiring! That is just all kinds of wrong. So I just shot Kevin "the look," mumbled something incoherent (but no doubt obscene...), and crawled in to the shower.
Once I was fully awake, I was like, "Did you tell me Bruschi is retiring???" I turned on the morning news, and, sadly it is true. After 13 years of professional football, all of which were spent with Patriots, Tedy Bruschi is indeed retiring. It just won't seem the same without seeing #54 on the field.
He may not have been the best player to ever play the game, but he was damn good. But more importantly, he played with heart. He played for the love of the game, not for the love of money. He was a true gentleman on and off the field. He was a true team player.
In 2005, at the very young age of 32, he suffered a stroke. A lot of players would have given up, and really who would blame them. But eight months later he was back in uniform, back in full force. It was amazing!
I really could see him being inducted to the Hall of Fame someday! His stats speak for themself!
Pats fans will miss you Tedy!
Thanks for 13 fabulous seasons!

I am so glad he is retiring in good health. I am sure he will be involved with the team somehow.
