A few fall touches.....

I have slacked off in getting pictures of my fall decorations posted. Actually, I slacked off in getting them put up. I was pretty late this year. Well, late for me. I have also cut back a bit this year from last year. And last year I had cut back from the year before. For the last couple of years I have tried to make a conscious effort to simplify many areas of my life. Holiday decorating is one area I needed some major simplifying in. For the last couple of years I simplified my Christmas decorations, too. It is very freeing actually. I find I enjoy the process much more when I am not spending days and days decking out the house. And I certainly appreciate when it comes time to put it all away. I also find I focus more on the decor that has true meaning to me.

So, for my autumn decorating I focused on the rooms that get the most use: kitchen, living room, dining room, and guest bathroom. Please don't get the wrong idea...I don't make a big deal about decorating a bathroom, but since that room is seen quite a bit I do have a pretty, glittery pumpkin that I sit on the vanity along with a fall candle. Just a little touch of autumn.

The picture above is the corner hutch in my dining room. Normally I have this filled much more. I am kind of liking this simplified look, though.

Above is a close-up of the top shelf of the corner hutch.

Above is a close-up of the middle shelf.

And finally a close-up of the bottom shelf. The placemat was bought  a few years ago at my favorite little craft fair, the one at the barn at Brooksby Farm. This sweet woman has a table there every year. She sells handsewn table linens, bibs, bags, wall hangings, etc. and her prices are so low! She is wonderful!

MacIntosh Yankee Candle and pumpkin dish that I use as a spoon rest on my stove.

Autumn leaf nightlight in the kitchen. This little corner looks so cozy at night when the nightlight is on!

An end table in the living room. That mat was also made by that same lady at the craft fair. The little pumpkins are glittery, and the candle is Autumn Wreath by Yankee Candle.

My fireplace mantle. This looks different every year. I have a hard time decorating mantles and shelves. I fuss and fuss with the placement of things and I am never quite satisfied. This year is no exception. The black frame was made by me a few years ago (if you click on the picture you can see it better). I love it. The candle is, of course, Autumn Wreath ... one of my fall favorites. My Mom bought me the gourd at a craft shop up in Maine. It is handpainted with an autumn leaf design. All of the other pumpkins are from either Michaels or Christmas Tree Shop.

Well, that was my quick little autumn tour of my home!

Gorgeous!! :) I especially love the GBP book front and center. :) I still have yet to make that Cider Spice Cake, but I can't wait to try it!! I'm making a recipe from the Fall, Family & Friends this weekend to bring down to Mr. J - one of the oh so delicious soups. Yum. I think that will really get me in the mood. :)

How cool is it that you even have an autumn night light for the kitchen....You never cease to amaze me with your enthusiasm.

I am so lame that I don't have any decorations up at all.

Looks fabulous! And it's gonna get down to 65 tonight so I'm feeling the fall even here in AZ.

I love your new look. I have trouble with mantles, too. I did learn recently that mantles need LARGE items and several of them. I tend to use small things so perhaps I will try their advice.
