Yep...30 years ago today, at 12:01AM August 1, 1981, MTV was born!
MTV was HUGE to me in the 80's for many reasons, and I totally have a post about this brewing in my mind, but in order to do it proper justice and cover all I want to cover...I can't do it now.
I gotta get to bed!
MTV is 30....which makes me 40, people!

MTV is almost as old as me! Weird! We didn't have cable when it first came out so I had to watch Night Tracks. :)

I was at a far better age to appreciate it than you, Infant, though I am not sure I really did. I loved the idea of music being on TV all the time, but the whole video thing wasn't especially appealing to me. Still isn't. But I loved the overall concept and even though I seldom ever watched it, I still love what it became. I think it was a huge cultural milestone.
First thing I remember when thinking about MTV is... Michael Jackson. Second thing is Pop-Up Videos. Or was that VH1? Well anyway, how is Bailey doing these days?
